Following 600 successful events across 280 cities in Europe last year, the Meet and Code initiative has now also launched in the UK, offering youth organisations the opportunity to host fully-funded coding events.
The initiative was developed by German organisation HDS (Haus de Stiftens) and financed by SAP to encourage young people to engage in a new skill, and has now launched in the UK with Tech Trust as their local partner.
Applications are now open for Meet and Code offering the chance for charities to produce an event on coding and programming, with the help of a €500 grant from Tech Trust.
What’s the goal of Meet and Code?
Tech Trust, SAP and HDS are encouraging young people to get more involved in the world of coding and develop the skills that allow them to bring their ideas to life.
Accepting applications from youth based charities UK-wide, the Meet and Code initiative will be supporting a number of events that inspire and encourage young people to learn more about the art of coding, in whatever form charities best see fit. If you’re looking for some inspiration, why not take a look at some of the past events that took place throughout Europe in 2017.
How does it work?
Organisations with beneficiaries between the age 8-24 or those looking to partner with youth-based charities may find this a perfect opportunity to expand the services they have on offer. Applications are now open and simply require a document proving charitable status, a high resolution logo and a fitting event proposal.
Organisations who are selected will receive €500 to fund an event with no limit on number of attendees, just as long as the event is free of charge. These events will take place during EU Coding Week (which is confusingly two weeks long), between 6th-21st October 2018.
The deadline for applications is 15th September, but earlier applications have slightly greater chance of approval. You can apply on the Meet and Code UK site here.
What happens next?
If you do get selected to run an event during EU Coding Week, you’ll be happy to hear it doesn’t stop there. Representatives from five organisations will be invited for an all-expenses paid trip to SAP headquarters in Walldorf, Germany.
These organisations will also be entered to win €2500 as prize money for providing such a fine example of how these events can make a difference.
